'You are the biggest nothing in the world': Actor Martin Sheen urges Trump to find his 'human side'
Actor Martin Sheen offered President Donald Trump and his administration some spiritual advice on how they should carry themselves in office. Sheen, known for his iconic role of President Josiah "Jed" Bartlet on the show 'The West Wing', claimed the current administration is a joyless one, and people need to get in touch with their "human side." On Nicolle Wallace's 'The Best People' podcast, the actor went on to call Trump "the biggest nothing in the world," and Trump's office "smells of ego and fear and false worship."
As Wallace Sheen's role is "one of the best presidents we’ve ever known," she asked him to share some advice for the current sitting president. Sheen took a spiritual route, saying humans "start as a ‘nothing," but, through accepting vulnerability, they can get in touch with their inner self. "It's a mighty battle going on. It's not about winning or losing. It's about being in touch with your own personal humanity because there's such a lack of it coming from this administration," Sheen said.
He then went on to circle out President Trump, offering some personal advice. "You've got to realize, sir, that you are the biggest nothing in the world,” the actor said, prompting the room to erupt in applause. "You stop listening to all these people around you, these sycophants who are encouraging you to be your non-human self," he advised. "Get in touch with that humanity. Stop fussing with your hair, don’t worry about your tie, and stand up straight and speak clearly, not from your throat. Speak from your heart and start being human. That’s what you were made for, not golf. So there you are, Mr. President, with all due respect, sir," Sheen went on to add.
Earlier in the podcast, Sheen, a lifelong liberal who previously endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, said the entire Trump administration lacks sensitivity and self-reflection. Claiming that the current office is a corrupt and joyless one, he went on to say, "There are no heroes in there. There's no music. There's no laughter. There's no self-effacement. There's no joy in that room. It smells of ego and fear and false worship."
Sheen also singled out Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., saying that his father, who sat with the ExComm committee during the Cuban Missile Crisis, rejected an attack and saved the world from nuclear annihilation because "he was in touch with his humanity" and he understood that the enemy was also human. "If we don't find our own personal humanity, we cannot possibly find it or see it in each other," Sheen continued. He also blasted ICE officers and claimed they wear masks out of shame.
Sheen has a history of supporting Democratic candidates, and he has been an active political activist for decades, participating in numerous non-violent protests. Over the years, he has campaigned for workers' rights, and in a 2009 speech at Oxford University, he claimed he had been arrested "66 times" for protesting and acts of civil disobedience, the Daily Mail reported.
