'He misses Epstein': Jimmy Kimmel jokes about Trump skipping his son's wedding
Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday night presented an astonishing theory as to why President Donald Trump skipped his son's wedding last week. Taking a jab at the President's alleged links to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Kimmel claimed that flying to an island made Trump miss his old friend.
Donald Trump Jr., who was often at the forefront of his father's presidential communications, got married to Bettina Anderson on a private island in the Bahamas last weekend. However, Trump stayed back at the White House, claiming he was busy working for the country, as he extended his best wishes on Truth Social. "While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so," the President wrote. "I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time. Congratulations to Don and Bettina!" he concluded.
Reacting to the post, Kimmel, in his monologue, said, "See, he can be warm when he wants to." He then went on to present his theory, saying, "He had circumstances pertaining to government to get to. And also flying to a private island makes him miss his friend Jeffrey, who he lost." Kimmel poked holes in Trump's defense, noting, "This is a guy who golfs two, three times a week, he's going to UFC fights with Vanilla Ice. He was too busy for his son's wedding." The late-night host then went on to mock the President's past relationships, claiming he would know best as "this is a man who knows a great marriage; he's had three of them himself."
It has been reported that a larger celebration will follow the Bahamas ceremony in the fall at the White House, with the President expected to attend. "Well, you'd hope so, they live there," Kimmel said. "Can you imagine if they didn't show up to that one, too? 'We wanted to make it, but we were unable to go downstairs.'"
Several theories emerged after it was confirmed that Trump would be skipping the ceremony. Hollywood insider Rob Shuter cited several sources who claimed that the real reason was that the first lady, Melania Trump, refused to go and spend the weekend with Trump's older children from previous marriages. Sources told Shuter's 'Naughty but Nice' that the tension between Melania and Trump's older children has existed for years, and her son, Barron Trump, also skipped, as he remains largely disconnected from his older half-siblings. "There's emotional distance there, and everyone in the family knows it," one source told Shuter, adding that tensions darkened after rumors spread of an assassination plot linked to Ivanka Trump.
