Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy slammed President Donald Trump on Sunday after the latter stormed out of an NBC interview. The President was pressed on his claims that the 2020 election was unconstitutional before walking out of the room. In a post on X, Murphy claimed that Trump had lost touch with reality and panicked when confronted with it. "Who thinks the FBI let all the January 6 rioters into the Capitol, that he really won the 2020 election, that the Iran War is going well," he wrote.

Leading up to the president's walkout, NBC journalist Kristen Welker had repeatedly questioned Trump over the lack of evidence supporting several of his claims. The issue that appeared to push Trump over the edge was a question about the January 6 Capitol riot. "The people were destroyed by dirty cops and by weaponization. Many of those people should be compensated," he said. "Now, with that being said, as I understand it, the weaponization fund was going to set up a group of people, people that could be picked by anybody, fair people, smart people, and they will go on an individual case basis."

He also attacked Walken and questioned the credibility of the press. "Now, I don’t know what's going to happen with the weaponization fund. I love the idea, because people like you, the fake dirty press, the crooked press," Trump said. He then claimed that elections in California, where vote counting is still ongoing, were rigged. At present, Democratic candidate Nithya Raman is projected to win the Los Angeles mayoral race.

Sen. Murphy also criticised Trump's handling of the conflict in Iran. In subsequent posts, he accused the President of incompetence and claimed that he had lost control of the war. "And when Trump announces he is going to call Netanyahu and tell him not to retaliate, and within hours Netanyahu retaliates, the humiliation just compounds," Murphy said. Trump, however, has claimed that a deal between all parties may be close.

Taking to Truth Social, he first urged Tehran and Jerusalem to stop attacking each other. Later, he revealed that the two sides were open to signing an "immediate ceasefire" agreement. "Final negotiations on "Peace" are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way," he added. However, he also made it clear that the U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would remain in place until a "final deal" was signed.

According to the New York Times, the two sides have agreed to de-escalate the situation, which had ignited worries about a full-blown conflict in the Middle East starting up again. However, Iran's military warned that if Israel attacked it or Lebanon, "much harsher and more forceful actions than before will follow." Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered his military to cease preparation for another attack on Iran, according to two Israeli military officials.
