After issuing expletive-laden threats to Iran on Easter Sunday, President Donald Trump doubled down on his plans to strike civilian infrastructure in the Middle East during the White House Easter Egg Roll. The President's comments caused further uproar among multiple congressional Democrats who claimed the U.S. military was being pushed to commit war crimes by an "out of control" and "unhinged" leader. Sharing a clip from Trump's press conference, Chair of the Democratic National Committee, Ken Martin, called him "unfit for office" and "delusional" while raising the alarm over the President's actions.

On Easter Sunday, Trump took to Truth Social to issue a deadline of 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday for Iran to open up the Strait of Hormuz. He threatened to strike the country's power plants and bridges if Tehran failed to meet the demands. This led several Democrats to suggest that Trump could be committing war crimes, as hitting those targets could result in civilian casualties.  Despite the outcry, Trump doubled down on his threats on Monday at a press conference alongside his Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth. After celebrating the rescue of the two U.S. pilots who were shot down in Iran, Trump said his deadline was firm and if Iran fails to comply, "The entire country can be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night." The comments further drew criticism with Martin calling the press briefing a directionless ramble from someone who is unfit for office. "Trump threatened war crimes on Easter Sunday. Today, he's rambling about planes being shot down and how great the stock market is in front of kids at the Easter Egg Roll," he wrote in a post on X. "This guy is unfit for this office," he concluded.

Trump also commented that Americans who did not want a war in Iran were foolish when asked what message he would like to give to Americans opposing the move. "They're foolish, because the war is about one thing: Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon," the President said. He went on to call the Iran Nuclear Deal the Barack Hussian Obama agreement, claiming if he hadn't backed out of it, Israel and the whole Middle-East would have been "wiped out". Reacting to the claims, Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren pointed out that there was nothing foolish about not wanting another forever war in the Middle East.

In the press briefing, Trump claimed the U.S. has a plan "where every bridge in Iran will be decimated" by midnight Wednesday and "where every power plant in Iran will be out of business, burning, exploding, and never to be used again." While he claimed he doesn't want it to happen, he dismissed concerns of such strikes being war crimes, saying, "I'm not worried about it. You know what a war crime is? Having a nuclear weapon." Senator Patty Murray, who has repeatedly appealed to Republicans to join Democrats in the efforts to end the war, slammed the president for claiming that the U.S. doesn't have enough money to fund child care but it has enough to bomb every bridge in Iran. "The President is describing war crimes. America doesn't have money for child care, but we have enough money to bomb every bridge in Iran? It's sick and wrong," she wrote on X.
