'This dinner is a disgrace': Jim Acosta blasts Trump's 'unhinged' speech at WHCD
President Donald Trump's controversial keynote speech at the rescheduled White House Correspondents' Dinner bombed spectacularly, drawing mostly negative reviews. Jim Acosta, the former CNN White House correspondent, didn't hold back on X: "This dinner is a disgrace. Trump's rambling, unhinged speech is full of hate and spite. Just spewing nastiness at his usual targets. Let's not sanitize how truly ugly it was. This would be a great moment for members of the press to get up and walk out."
In another post, the 'Enemy of the People' author pointed to the lack of laughter in the audience: "The wide shots tell the story. Most people aren't laughing. They can't wait to call their Ubers to go home." Acosta is among the most vocal critics of Trump, having regularly sparred with the president during his first term—he even had his press credentials revoked after a heated exchange at a press conference.
Trump wore a “Trump 2028” hat at the White House correspondence dinner tonight. That’s fine, Obama will come back and kick his ass for a third term! Bring it on! pic.twitter.com/QVT6LbWvcH

The rambling hour-long speech had several awkward moments interspersed with supposed jokes, filled with insults and barbs aimed at the press. Among the most notable was Trump's joke about running for a third term: "That's why tonight, to show just how much I care about the press, and I want to save your ratings, I'm pleased to announce my intention to — and this is somewhat of a scoop—my intention to run for a fourth term as president of the United States," he said with a smirk.
Trump is bombing really badly at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. None of the "jokes" are landing. Difficult to watch.

Another came when he reflected on the shooting near the dinner in April, after which the event was postponed indefinitely. "But after hearing the gunshots, many people yelled, 'Get down, get down,' which caused Nicki Minaj to start twerking. Do you believe it? 'Get down.' She's the only one that really understood what that meant. It's quite an evening," Trump said, adding that the rescheduled dinner was significant because it shows that America does not yield to political violence.
Thanks to the White House Correspondents Association for allowing this man, who has done more harm to American journalism than any other president, to continue spreading his lies and propaganda. pic.twitter.com/aUr6H4gRHy

The 80-year-old also made a distasteful joke about Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar: "...Ilhan Omar, one of my favorites, and her brother are thinking about moving together, very much in love. A video has surfaced recently of Ilhan giving a speech referring to World War II as World War Eleven. And they asked her about that. She still thought she got it right. But I'm not surprised because she's a low-IQ person, and she's also a very dishonest person. She...calls her brother husband number one," he said to an inert audience.
