Senator Mark Warner called out President Donald Trump for threatening the American electoral system in a post on X on Tuesday. The Virginia Senator urged voters not to move on from the issue, claiming that "any election result he doesn't like, he will just call stolen." Last week, President Trump delivered a prime-time address to the nation in which he claimed that American elections in the past, especially the 2020 presidential election, were marred by voter fraud.

In the wake of the President's address, Warner has vocally raised concerns about Trump not wanting to have a free and fair election, citing his decision to remove all members of the independent Elections Assistance Commission only a few months ahead of the Midterms. "There was something called the Elections Assistance Commission. Nobody knows about it, but it works with local registrars, state registrars, making sure we vet voting machines," he said on ABC News's 'This Week', as per The Hill.

"Recently, Trump fired all the senior leadership, made the Republican quit, fired the Democrats. You know, this guy is not looking for a secure election because if we have a free and fair election, he and his allies are gonna get beat historically this fall," Warner added. The Virginia Senator has shared multiple posts on X, warning voters that the President and the administration were set to "undermine Americans' confidence in our upcoming elections."

Warner also criticised the President for his comments when he was asked by a reporter if he would put pressure on China for meddling in the 2020 election, according to his own address. Trump stated that it was a long time ago and that Beijing was different today than it was back then. "So Trump claims an election was stolen from him…Now doesn't seem to care?" Warner asked as he shared the clip. "All these claims of stolen elections are just a pretext to justify interference in the midterms," he added.

On Sunday, the Virginia Senator appeared on CBS News' 'Face The Nation', where he claimed that if the midterm elections were indeed free and fair, the Trump administration would see mass rejections of its policies. "I believe it's because Donald Trump intends to interfere in this year's elections. He knows if there is a free and fair election, his policies will be rejected at record levels," he said.

"I think that what we just saw was this was the opening shot, the opening shot of trying to undermine Americans' confidence that their vote will be actually counted and mean something," Warner asserted. He also raised concerns that the U.S. President could send officers of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in a bid to intimidate voters. Trump has not ruled out sending such agents to polling stations to ensure the security of the voting process.
