At the beginning of this week, it appeared that peace might be on the cards in Iran. In a Truth Social post on Monday, President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. had constructive conversations with Iran, and days later claimed to have received a major gift from the Iranian regime. However, Tehran appears resolute in refusing to negotiate on the U.S.'s terms. White House Press Secretary has warned Iran that failing to join the negotiating table would result in an escalation of attacks on its infrastructure. Meanwhile, the Pentagon is seeking $200 billion for Operation Epic Fury. Democrats, opposed to the conflict from its onset, have, however, refused to agree to the funding. They have been joined by a few Republicans, including South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace.

In a series of posts on X, Mace made her position against the funding request clear. She wrote that she would not vote in favour of the funding bill if the United States was seriously considering a ground invasion in the Middle East. "If a single boot of a single American soldier sets foot on Iranian soil, I will vote against this. I will not vote to fund sending South Carolina's sons and daughters to die in a ground war in Iran," she wrote in a post on Tuesday.

Mace criticised Washington's war agenda in a more recent post, in which she claimed that the country had spent decades sending American soldiers to the Middle East with no clear exit plan. The pattern seems to be repeating in this case, and the South Carolina Representative has no plans of supporting it. "We will not stand for it," she wrote. "We will not sacrifice American lives for the same failed foreign policies. The war machine may be willing to give the lives of your sons and daughters for the price of oil, but we are not," Mace added.

Since the conflict began on February 28, as per various polls, President Trump's approval rating has declined sharply. Addressing concerns of young voters who are opposed to the military operation, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a press interaction that the President approved Operation Epic Fury to secure their future. "President Trump is doing this for you," she said. "He's doing this for young people so that we are no longer threatened by a rogue terrorist regime in the Middle East that seeks to kill the brave men and women who serve our country in the Middle East, many of them young men and women themselves."
