'He says whatever Putin tells him': Joe Walsh accuses Donald Trump of being 'on Putin’s side'
Former Republican Congressman Joe Walsh slammed President Donald Trump on Tuesday for some of the comments he made during his state visit to Turkey. Trump reiterated his stance on the U.S. having control over Greenland instead of Denmark, and claimed that it was the biggest reason why relations between Washington and NATO had gone downhill. The President also said that the U.S. could remove all of its soldiers from Europe, which Walsh believes would be great news for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Every word out of his mouth is music to Putin's ears. He says whatever Putin tells him to say," Walsh wrote on X after sharing the clip of Trump making the comments. The former GOP Congressman also alleged that the U.S. President was working for Putin. During the media interaction, Trump claimed that Greenland was surrounded by Chinese and Russian ships, which had become a problem for Washington.
Every word out of his mouth is music to Putin’s ears. He says whatever Putin tells him to say. The President of the United States is not on the side of the free world. Never has been. He works for Putin. He’s on Putin’s side. https://t.co/Fij9i4z9Gf

"That's what hurt my relationship with NATO," he said, responding to a reporter's question. "Because Greenland doesn't help Denmark. Denmark doesn't spend money to really help Greenland, but it's an important part for the United States. And it's surrounded by Chinese ships and Russian ships.... Greenland should be controlled by the United States, not by Denmark. And when they would not go along with it, with all the money we spent to help them with Russia...we don't have to spend any money. We could remove all our soldiers out of Europe."
Speaking to the media alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Trump also claimed to have had a "very good talk" with President Putin, and remained hopeful that the Russia-Ukraine war could come to an end. "I had a very good talk with President Putin, who, by the way, has a lot of respect for President Erdogan," he said.

"We had a long talk yesterday. It lasted a long time. I also spoke with President (Volodymyr) Zelenskyy right after that. I think they both want to make a deal. It's too bad it took so long, but I think there is going to be something that's going to come out...I settled eight wars, and I think we are going to be settling a ninth. It doesn't seem likely now, but sometimes with war, I see when it is least likely, it happens," the President added.
Before heading to Turkey, Trump made similar claims to reporters in the Oval Office. "This is one that I think we're getting much closer than people realize. And President Putin wants it to end. I will tell you that very strongly," he said, as per a Reuters report. "And President Zelenskiy actually wants it to end now. And we're going to be going to NATO, and we're going to be talking about it, and I think we're going to get it. I think we're going to get it ended. It's been a terrible situation."
