'Digging the moral pit deeper': Jon Ossoff warns of an ugly downfall for Trump

Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff, who is running for reelection in Georgia, launched yet another attack on President Donald Trump, claiming he is headed for an ugly downfall. Speaking at the Berean Christian Church on Monday, Ossoff said the President was digging the "moral hole" deeper, and he will soon fall into it; citing the bible, he added Trump will soon be brought down by his own arrogance. 

Over the last year, Ossoff has become a Democratic star with his viral Senate questionings and strong remarks criticizing the President. While he is a clear favorite in his reelection bid this midterm election in November, Ossoff has been relentless with his attacks on Trump, and he calls the "Epstein class," and the "Mar-a-Lago Mafia." On Monday, Ossoff attacked Trump's moral conscience, claiming he was headed for an ugly downfall. "With each passing day, we see Trump dig the moral pit deeper and deeper. But Proverbs says, whoever digs a pit will fall into it. And Scripture is full of wicked kings brought low by their own arrogance," he said.

In his speech, Ossoff also took aim at the recent Trump nominees and members of the administration, claiming they did not have the power to stand up to the President. "The price of admission to the president's service seems to be proof that you're willing to lie for him," he said before naming Jay Clayton, Trump's nominee for Director of National Intelligence. "He refused again and again, while he was under oath, to affirm Donald Trump's defeat in 2020. Or Pete Hegseth before the Senate this week, refusing to recant his lies about the war," Ossoff added.  

The attacks haven't been one-sided, as Trump also dished some of the insults back to Ossoff during his rally-style event in Georgia. In his speech, he called Ossoff "terrible" and claimed he looked like the comedic character Pee-wee Herman, whom he mistakenly named "Pinky Herman." "Jon Ossoff and the Democrat communists want to let the Marxists into power, bankrupt your families, and leave you totally undefended with wide-open borders," Trump said. "But we will not let that happen to our country." 

Trump further claimed that Ossoff is not respected in Washington and boasted that he beat him in an election years ago because he didn't like him. He explained that he endorsed Ossoff's opponent, former Rep. Karen Handel (R-Ga.), for Congress in 2017 and claimed Ossoff was "easily winning," but he backed Handel, resulting in her victory because he thought "anybody would be better" than Ossoff. "He lost, but I have to hand it to him because instead of being a congressman, he later on became a senator," he said. Ossoff later won his Senate seat as well in 2020, the same year Trump sought to overturn the election results in Georgia that favored former President Joe Biden. In a controversial move, Trump called up Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, asking him to recalculate the results so that he would be the winner.
