Robert Reich says Trump is becoming a 'fat lame duck' as poll numbers sink
Former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert Reich slammed President Donald Trump in a post on X, calling him "the most loathsome, least competent, and most corrupt person" to have ever assumed the office of the United States president. Reich has been an avid critic of the Trump administration, and despite his harsh words against the President, he believes that there might be some good news for Americans. Of late, President Trump's poll numbers have seen a significant dip.

Writing on Substack, Reich wrote, "Trump’s poll numbers are plummeting. They’re now at record lows. Even many Republicans have had enough. Progressives are winning election after election around the country." He also claimed that while President Trump is here to stay in the Oval Office for more than two years, he was on his way out. "He’ll soon be a cringeworthy irrelevance, a fat lame duck, excrement on the sidewalk of history," Reich scoffed.
"The blue wave must be a tsunami—inundating everything Trump may attempt to do to hold on to the House and Senate, overwhelming whatever lies he may tell about the election, and enveloping him in a rejection that’s so unmistakeable, a rebuke so unequivocal, a reproach so unambiguous as to cause the great giant of America to get up and dance," Reich added. The midterm election is set for November, and Republicans face an uphill battle to retain control of the House.
According to a poll by Fox News, the President's job approval is still hovering at a record low, with many voters being in favor of a "dramatic" or "revolutionary" change. Losing control of either house of Congress would massively hinder Trump's policy plans. The poll found voters favoring Democrats, with many saying they would do a better job on income inequality, healthcare, foreign policy, inflation, and the economy. Even when it comes to immigration, one of the primary issues President Trump campaigned on, voters preferred Democrats by a slim margin.
The prolonged war with Iran has also heavily impacted Americans, with prices refusing to come down as much as people may have hoped. It is even leading to cracks in President Trump's fiercely loyal MAGA voter base. According to a Politico poll, around 37% of self-identified MAGA voters believe that Washington should continue the war only if prices do not increase any more than they already have; that number was 29% in May.
Moreover, 63% of Americans and 57% of MAGA voters blame the war for skyrocketing gas prices in the country. The Politico report claims that one in five Trump voters believed that these prices would not have risen as much had there been a Democratic president. Among those who took part in the survey, 42% believe the same.
