Author Don Winslow slammed President Donald Trump for attacking his predecessor, Barack Obama, over the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. After the president called Obama a "sucker" and soft on Tehran, Winslow urged him to stop blaming his "incompetence" on Obama and take responsibility for the current failures of the Iran war

Trump lashed out at Obama, in a lengthy Truth Social post on Sunday, for being "good" to Tehran in 2015, and for settling a Carter-era arms deal with the nation with an alleged payment of $1.7 billion. Reacting to the post, Winslow took to X, writing, "Dear @realDonaldTrump, Stop blaming your incompetence and failures on Barack Obama and Joe Biden." He added that all these failures were Trump's and his alone, adding that he is a "coward' and a "child". "You are an embarrassment," Winslow scathed.

In his Truth Social post, Trump complained about how Iran "finally hit 'pay dirt'" with Obama, who negotiated the now-defunct Iran Nuclear Deal in 2015. "He was not only good to them, but he was great, actually going to their side, jettisoning Israel, and all other Allies, and giving Iran a major and very powerful new lease on life," Trump wrote. He claimed the former president gave Tehran $1.7 billion on a "silver platter" and the "Iranian thugs" had no idea of what to do with the money when it was offloaded from planes in "suitcases and satchels." The payment was made as part of an arms deal that fell apart in the 1970s, and as per official records, the Obama administration paid $400 million as a refund and $1.3 billion in interest to settle the deal.

Trump was criticized for the outburst as the current peace negotiations with Iran seem to be falling apart. On Tuesday, Trump told reporters that the ceasefire with Tehran was "very weak" and on "massive life support" after he rejected Iran's response to his peace proposal. "I would call it the weakest right now, after reading that piece of garbage they sent us. I didn't even finish reading it," Trump told reporters. The President went on to call the list of demands a "piece of garbage," and the U.S. will go for a "complete victory."

Citing Iran's Tasnim news agency, the BBC reported that Tehran's offer includes an immediate end to the war on all fronts, which is seemingly a reference to Israeli attacks against Lebanon and Iran, removal of the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports, and guarantees of no further attacks. Other publications reported that demands for compensation for war damages and sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz were also included.

Following Trump's comments, Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf took to X to express that Tehran was "ready to respond and to teach a lesson for any aggression." In a separate post, Ghalibaf said there was "no alternative but to accept the rights of the Iranian people as laid out in the 14-point proposal." He cautioned that the longer the U.S. "drags their feet," the more American taxpayers "will pay for it."
