'Will you MAGA Trumpaholics never learn': Stephen King over President's recent Iran rhetoric

"The only thing that matters...is that they can't have a nuclear weapon; I don't think about the Americans' financial situation," Trump had said

President Donald Trump's comment about prioritizing the denuclearization of Iran over the financial situation of Americans has landed him at the center of a lot of criticism. A recent such attack came from celebrated author and vocal Trump critic Stephen King. Taking to X, King accused Trump of "swanning around" in Air Force One, eating "steak and eggs at every meal," while being oblivious to the troubles of American citizens. He questioned the President's voter base for supporting him despite all the criticism coming his way.

King has never shied away from criticizing the President, and of late, he has been quite vocal about his views. He criticized the administration's request for $1.5 trillion from Congress for the Defense budget. "You could feed a lot of hungry people and build a lot of schools for $1.5 trillion. Maybe fix some Interstate highways, too," the author wrote in a separate post on X.

Before heading to China for a state visit, Trump was asked by a reporter if he would consider making a deal with Iran quickly, considering how Americans were struggling to make ends meet due to high prices. In his response, Trump said that he didn't think about the financial situation of his citizens while pondering a deal with Tehran.

King is not the only one criticizing the President's comments, which his supporters say are being taken out of context. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, whom Trump has frequently referred to as a "low IQ person", called it an "extraordinary admission," saying that the Trump presidency and Republican policies have "regularly made that very point." He added that the war in Iran, funded by taxpayer dollars, had made life more expensive for Americans.

Representative Brittany Pettersen responded to Trump's statement on X, claiming this was the first time that the President was telling the truth about what he really cares about. "For once, Trump tells the truth! He doesn't care about the well-being of the American people and never did," she wrote. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker further alleged that the comments made it clear that Trump doesn't care if Americans can afford gas or groceries, in his post on X.

This is not the first time the President has appeared to prioritize the Iran war over the cost of living for Americans. Earlier this year, he claimed that the federal government could not take care of individual plans like healthcare, Medicare, and Medicaid, as its job was to protect the nation's borders from all kinds of foreign threats.
