President Donald Trump on Wednesday left his supporters in North Dakota divided with a bizarre "threesome" joke about his sons. Celebrating the opening of the Presidential Library of Theodore Roosevelt, a Medal of Honor recipient, Trump started riffing on how Roosevelt and his son were just one of two father-son pairs to earn the Medal of Honor in wartime. He had previously, on many occasions, expressed that he wanted to decorate himself with the honor, and echoed the same wish this time with a weird reference. "Now, as I see my two beautiful sons sitting there, I think I'm going to give one to myself, one to them, and we'll have a threesome," Trump joked.

As the audience divided itself between laughter and a few gasps, the President quickly pivoted to suggesting giving just one of his two sons, neither of whom, like him, has ever served in the military. "Ok, I'll pick out one of the two. I'll give them the Congressional Medal of Honor for something for their genius at hunting, and I'll get one for taking on Russia, Russia, Russia, or something, and we'll have a third pair now," he said before adding that he was "only kidding."

This was the second time in a single day that the President joked about giving himself the highest military honor. Earlier, during a ceremony announcing that the Medal of Honor awarded to the Roosevelt had been donated to the library, Trump said, "I want to give one to myself, but they tell me, and I'm not allowed to," adding that even his sons did not think he was worthy of getting it. "I asked what I have done to deserve it, and they couldn't think of anything, so I'm not happy with them today," Trump added.

The bizarre comments later resurfaced near the tail end of his address in the Rough Rider State, during which he turned the opening of his conservative predecessors' presidential libraries into a lengthy string of attacks on congressional candidates, touted his administration's accomplishments, and criticised his predecessors. He also briefly digressed into talking about Spain not supporting him in the Iran operation while recalling Roosevelt's valor against Spanish forces.

He said the Spanish are "not very good members of NATO" and warned that they'll "learn soon" and are "not behaving nicely." Trump went on to talk about his beautification projects in Washington, including the alleged vandalism at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, before he went on a rant about a group of New York congressional candidates whom he called "communists" and "very unattractive." He attacked former Democratic presidents as well, claiming Roosevelt would not have approved of some of them, The Independent reported.
