"He was so nasty to Joe Biden, it was terrible. But to me, he likes Trump," the President said

Apart from issuing another ultimatum to Iran on Monday, President Donald Trump, on separate occasions, took a dig at his predecessor, Joe Biden. After mocking the former Democratic President for being "incapable of signing" during an interaction with children at the White House Easter Egg Roll, the President cited his relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in an attempt to criticize Biden at a later press conference.

Speaking at the White House, Trump lashed out at U.S. allies who refused to directly join the U.S.A's war against Iran. Trump said that the war has changed his perception of NATO. "NATO is a paper tiger. Putin's not afraid of NATO. Putin's afraid of us, very afraid of us," the President said and then went on to lash out at non-NATO allies as well. "Think of it, it's not just NATO. You know who else didn't help us? South Korea didn't help us…Australia didn't help us…Japan," the President said, adding, "We have 50,000 soldiers in Japan to protect them from North Korea. We have 45,000 soldiers in South Korea to protect us from Kim Jong Un, who I know very well."

Trump then claimed that the North Korean leader said "very nice things" about him, but was "so nasty" to Joe Biden. "He used to call Joe Biden a mentally retarted person," Trump said, adding, "He said he is a mentally retarted person. He was so nasty to Joe Biden, it was terrible. But to me, he likes Trump. You notice how nice things are with North Korea? It's very nice."

The North Korean leadership has historically been hostile to the U.S., with Trump being the only sitting president to officially meet Kim Jong Un. While Kim's sister, Kim Yo Jong, had labelled Biden as senile in 2023, exchanges between Trump and Kim have also remained tense during the President's first term. In one of the most infamous exchanges of 2017, Kim had labelled Trump as a "mentally deranged US dotard." Trump, on the other hand, had mocked the North Korean Leader, calling him "Little Rocket Man."

During both Biden and Trump's previous administrations, the U.S. unsuccessfully tried to pressure North Korea into dismantling its ballistic missile programs. While Trump held face-to-face meetings with Kim Jong Un in Singapore and Hanoi, these summits failed to stop North Korea from testing and developing long-range missiles.
