Stephen King questions Donald Trump's 'great progress' in Iran talks statement
Over the past week, President Donald Trump's announcements about Iran have often been contradictory. While on one hand, he has been consistently claiming that the U.S. has been engaged in productive conversations with Iran, he has not de-escalated his rhetoric of unleashing larger attacks on Tehran. In his most recent statement, the President has claimed that the U.S. objectives in the Middle East are almost complete, and indicated that the U.S. may withdraw even if Iran continues with its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Reacting to the President's claims of progressive talks with Tehran, celebrated author Stephen King took a dig at his supporters. Taking to his X account, King said that he felt "sorry" for the people who believed that President Trump was being truthful.
If you believe that Trump is telling the truth about serious talks with Iran, I’m sorry for you.

King's sentiments have been echoed by other Trump critics as well, particularly after Iran denied any direct negotiations with the Trump administration. The Trump administration has reportedly proposed a 15-point agenda to Tehran, before the President decides to declare victory. Iran, meanwhile, has proposed its own set of terms and refused to de-escalate. In a post on X, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said that Tehran has had no negotiations with the U.S., but has received a request for negotiations, accompanied by a set of proposals from the U.S.

President Trump said on Monday that he was "pretty sure" that a deal would be struck soon. Later, in a social media post, he claimed that the discussions were ongoing with a "new and more reasonable regime". However, he warned Iran that if "a deal is not shortly reached," the U.S. will "obliterate" Iran's energy and desalination plants. "We will conclude our lovely “stay” in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!)," he wrote.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also did not rule out the possibility of an escalation on the U.S.'s part. When asked about the President's threat to bomb Iran's "energy generating plants, oil wells, and desalination plants", Leavitt said, "The President has made it quite clear to the Iranian regime, as evidenced by the statement that you just read, that their best move is to make a deal or else the U.S. armed forces have capabilities beyond their wildest imagination and the President is not afraid to use them."
