Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer urges Congress to rein in on 'military moron' Trump
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) slammed President Donald Trump for his handling of the Iran conflict, calling him a "military moron" who cost the U.S. billions of dollars. In a post on X, Schumer stated that Democrats would soon force a vote on the War Powers Resolutions for Congress to step in and "end this war for good". The measure comes as the Trump administration touted the success of the military campaign following a two-week ceasefire agreement with Tehran.
The U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran have been criticized by the Democrats from the beginning, and things escalated after Trump issued obscene threats of bombing civilian structures on Tuesday if Tehran failed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil shipping lane. Reacting to Trump's threat, Schumer called the President "an extremely sick person," in a post on X, adding that Republicans who refuse to join to vote would own their share in every consequence of the war.
This is an extremely sick person.

Each Republican who refuses to join us in voting against this wanton war of choice owns every consequence of whatever the hell this is. https://t.co/o6lMRWareJ
Hours before his 8 p.m. EDT deadline, the two countries announced a two-week ceasefire agreement, mediated by Pakistan. After the ceasefire announcement, Schumer said he was glad that the President backed off and claimed he is "desperately searching for any sort of exit ramp from his ridiculous bluster." However, Schumer's criticism didn't end there as he went on to call Trump a "military moron," pointing to how the conflict had cost Americans billions. "Trump is a military moron. His war, with a price tag of $44 billion and $4+ gas, made us worse off today than we were when he started it," Schumer wrote in his post.
Schumer further urged lawmakers to pass a war powers resolution that would force Trump to obtain authorization from Congress before launching any military operations. While the Constitution says only Congress can declare war, it allows the President to launch short-term operations in situations of an immediate threat to the country. "If he [Trump] restarts this war, we will be in even worse shape. We must pass our War Powers Resolution to end this war for good," Schumer added.
This will be the FOURTH time we’ve forced a War Powers vote.

This time, after threats from @POTUS to extinguish an entire civilization, Republicans must join us in voting to end this war once and for all.
Our country is worse off because of Trump’s strategic ineptitude.… https://t.co/LFVBUQiHUJ
In a press conference on Wednesday, Schumer further insisted that "Congress must reassert its authority, especially at this dangerous moment." He added that no president, Democrat or Republican, should have the power to take the country into war alone. "Not now. Not ever,” Schumer said, according to The Hill. Democrats in the Senate and House of Representatives have repeatedly tried and failed to pass war powers resolutions in recent months. Republicans in Congress, who hold slim majorities in both the Senate and House, have unanimously backed Trump's policies and defended his handling of the conflict, deeming it necessary for peace. "President Trump took courageous action to ensure Iran can never use a nuclear weapon against our homeland, and as he said, we are far along with a definitive agreement to deliver lasting peace," White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
