Republican Senator Rick Scott intensified political tensions on Monday, claiming during a Fox News interview that Democrats want President Donald Trump and Republicans "murdered." Scott's remarks follow a shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner that left attendees rattled and raised significant questions regarding presidential security. The Florida Senator utilized the incident to urge Democrats to fund the Department of Homeland Security in its entirety.

Scott said that while he disagreed with the presidencies of Barack Obama and Joe Biden, he would never have wanted to see them killed. "Democrats won't even call out these people for who they are," the Florida Senator said. "They want President Trump…they want Republicans murdered all across this country. Capitalists murdered. This has got to change." He added that Democrats should demonstrate a commitment to the security of all Americans.

Urging Democrats to fund Homeland Security, Scott alleged that Democrats did not care about Americans dying at the hands of "illegal aliens," as he held up a picture of four women who were victims of crime. He doubled down on his attack on the "left" in a recent post on X, sharing an interview clip of internet personality Hasan Piker with the New York Times.

Piker spoke about how a section of the public would understand Luigi Mangione's infamous murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. "How can we be surprised this keeps happening? Look at who the left celebrates and listens to," Scott wrote. He also accused Piker of being a "terrorist sympathizer." In the Fox interview, Scott claimed that Democrats' decision not to fund Homeland Security and their attempt to stop President Trump's White House ballroom plans were the result of the "Trump derangement syndrome."

Republicans call for White House ballroom after shooting

Meanwhile, many Republican leaders have come out in support of the White House ballroom construction after the shooting on Saturday. Rep.Pat Fallon came on Fox News to claim that the White House ballroom would go a long way in strengthening security measures against President Trump and members of the Cabinet. "The White House ballroom is a great argument," he said.

"It is something they can completely control. They can have events there. You don't have hotel guests checking in with weapons," Fallon added. He also questioned the security measures at the Washington Hilton hotel, where the shooter, Cole Allen, had checked in before the incident. "They weren't even checking baggage for folks who were checking into the hotel that day," he alleged. House Speaker Mike Johnson also lauded the ballroom, calling it a "solution" for such situations.

"The ballroom will be a solution for this because it will be on the most secure compound in the world, it won't have hotel rooms above it, and it'll have 7-inch thick glass on the windows, so it'll be a very safe environment to do events like that. We need a place like that, and the president keeps pointing it out," he told Fox News.
