Report reveals what Trump told Pam Bondi a day before firing her as attorney general
Pam Bondi was fired from her position as Attorney General on April 2, with President Donald Trump saying that she would be "transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector." Trump also praised her in a Truth Social post, saying that she "did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900." However, reports indicate that the President was upset with Bondi on several issues, including her handling of the Epstein files and a failure to prosecute Trump's political opponents.
Now, a report by the Wall Street Journal has claimed that Bondi had requested the President to allow her to remain Attorney General till this summer. The report also claimed that Trump had a four-word message for Bondi a day before firing her. "I think it’s time," Trump said as he and Bondi headed to the Supreme Court, where justices were hearing oral arguments in a highly contentious case on birthright citizenship.
As per the report, the decision to fire Bondi, who had taken over as Attorney General in February last year, was a result of the President's dissatisfaction over several issues, including the handling of the Epstein files, and a lack of positive news coverage directed at the Department of Justice (DOJ). In a now-deleted social media post, Trump had also rebuked Bondi for failing to act against his political opponents, including former FBI director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Bondi, who is being replaced by her deputy, Todd Blanche, said she remains "eternally grateful for the trust that President Trump placed in me to Make America Safe Again." "Leading President Trump's historic and highly successful efforts to make America safer and more secure has been the honor of a lifetime, and easily the most consequential first year of the Department of Justice in American history," she wrote in a post on X.
Over the next month I will be working tirelessly to transition the office of Attorney General to the amazing Todd Blanche before moving to an important private sector role I am thrilled about, and where I will continue fighting for President Trump and this Administration.…

It remains unclear whether Blanche, currently serving as the acting Attorney General, would be made permanent in the position or not. As per a New York Times report, Trump is considering replacing Bondi with Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lee Zeldin. Zeldin was among the President's picks to head the DOJ before Bondi was appointed. Meanwhile, the former Attorney General has been subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee to testify about the DOJ’s handling of the Epstein files.
