Gunman kills 1, wounds 10 in Midland, Texas, before dying after police standoff
At least one person died, and 10 others were left injured after a gunman opened fire across parts of Midland, Texas, on Friday. The suspect was later found dead after a standoff with police that lasted several hours. As per reports, residents and police reported hearing multiple rounds of gunfire from inside a building in the 4600 block of West Wall Street in Midland, Texas. According to Midland Memorial Hospital, four of the injured victims were taken into surgery, while five others were listed in stable condition.
Officials immediately declared an active shooter situation, urging residents to stay away from the area as emergency response teams worked to contain the situation. "The active shooter incident has been resolved, and the suspect is confirmed deceased. The scene remains active and has not been cleared. Road closures in the area are expected to remain in place for the foreseeable future as the investigation continues," city officials informed in a post on X.

FBI Director Kash Patel informed that special agents and victim services personnel were deployed at the scene. "FBI is on scene and deployed Special Agents and Victim Services personnel to assist the Midland Police Department at the scene of today’s shooting - we will keep the public updated as able," he said. Authorities have not yet released details about the victims or a possible motive behind the attack.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott expressed his sympathies for the victims. "Cecilia and I are deeply saddened by the senseless act of violence in Midland. We are praying for the victims, their families, and the entire community," Abbott posted on X. "I have been briefed on the matter and commend the swift response from the Midland Police Department, DPS, and all assisting law enforcement agencies," he added.
Representative Gina Hinojosa also expressed her condolences. "My heart goes out to the families of the victims in today's tragic shooting in Midland. I am grateful for law enforcement officers and city officials, whose swift action throughout this devastating event undoubtedly saved lives. As we continue to monitor the situation, I am hoping for the fast recovery of those injured," she said.
The shooting has brought back memories of the 2019 Midland-Odessa rampage, in which a gunman killed seven people and wounded more than two dozen others. Now, Midland—a Texas oil hub of about 140,000 residents—is once again grappling with the aftermath of another mass shooting.
