Fox News has an awkward moment airing Trump's 'winning big' boast next to news of dead soldiers

It's not every day that Fox News airs a piece even mildly critical of Trump, but a clip gaining traction online captured something unusual. It showed how the network changed course Saturday after reporting that two service members were killed in Iranian strikes on Jordan. "We have yet to hear from the president in the last couple of hours respond to this breaking news that two service members have been killed. This is the first time service members have been killed since the fighting resumed two weeks ago," the anchor said.

The network noted that Central Command said the attack happened Friday, as U.S. service members in Jordan came under missile and drone fire from Iran. One service member is missing, and four others were evacuated to Jordanian hospitals. It was at this moment that the network aired Trump's Thursday night speech, in which he claimed, "We are likewise winning big in Iran, and you will see the fruits of that labor very, very shortly."

Multiple users on X were quick to latch on to the contrast and criticize Trump's handling of the war with Iran. One user noted: "Yep, the 'fruits of that labor' being dead soldiers ... should we really be surprised, though?" Another said Fox must be reading the polling and realizing that the wind isn't blowing Trump's way. A third user quipped: "Love the way Faux News CAN keep it real when it comes to service members being killed, and don't allow Trump to just fluff it away."

The president had been unusually quiet about the deaths, having only updated his Truth Social with a call for Republicans to add Iran to the Russia sanctions bill. "That's what Lindsey wanted to do, and it was going to happen." NewsNation, however, revealed it had a brief phone conversation with Trump, in which he expressed his sadness over the deaths. "We hate to see it happen. They were in the service of our country. And they, every one of them, will never allow; they'll fight to the death. But never allowing Iran to have a nuclear weapon."

The network also asked him about his reaction to Iran withdrawing from the interim agreement signed between the two nations to end the war. Trump said he could not care less about Iran's announcement. Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said Tehran will not implement any measures under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding after the U.S. "violated and suspended all of its commitments" first, and is now purely focused on defending the country, vowing to never negotiate with Washington under any circumstances.

Meanwhile, the U.S. responded to the Iranian strikes with its own round of strikes on Saturday. It was the eighth consecutive night of U.S. strikes, according to CENTCOM, in which forces hit Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites to continue degrading Iranian military capabilities. They also targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces that were responsible for attacks against U.S. service members in Jordan on Friday.
