Bill Kristol contrasts Biden and Trump inflation figures in sharp critique
Former Chief of Staff to the Vice President of the United States, Bill Kristol, criticized the Trump administration on Wednesday over soaring inflation. Kristol claimed that inflation was much lower under the Biden administration. As per a report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, inflation had jumped to 4.2% in May, the highest in three years. Kristol said that inflation under Biden during his last month in office stood at 2.9%. However, it should be mentioned that after Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act in 2021, which injected a $1.9 trillion stimulus package into the economy, inflation peaked at a 40-year high of 9.1% year-over-year in June 2022.
The inflation rate in Biden's last month in office was 2.9%. Trump (supported by a Republican Congress) has driven it up to 4.2%.

President Donald Trump, meanwhile, has come under renewed criticism over high prices after a clip of him saying that he "loved the inflation" started circulating on social media. Trump made the comment to stress that prices would plummet as soon as the Iran conflict was over. The President has vowed to intensify the military offensive in the Middle East till Iran surrenders to a peace deal with the U.S.
The virality of the clip of the President's inflation statement, however, continues to grow, and reactions have been pouring in from critics and opposition lawmakers, who have opposed the conflict since it started on February 28. Criticizing the statement, Senator Bernie Sanders pointed out that working families in America were struggling to afford gas, groceries, and other essentials.
Greene: It's pretty hard to take from a billionaire president when he says he loves inflation brought on the American people because of a war that he decided to pursue. He basically just handed the Democrats a great big campaign ad for the 2026 midterms. pic.twitter.com/CCM5pSuIi4

Former Trump loyalist Marjorie Taylor Greene expressed shock at the President's statement. "To hear the President say today that he loves inflation is absolutely outrageous," she said during an interview on CNN. "It's pretty hard to take from a billionaire president when he says he loves inflation brought on the American people because of a war that he decided to pursue," she added. The former member of Congress also believed that such comments would give Democrats a significant campaign ad ahead of the midterm elections in November.
Most Republicans, however, continue to back the President. Rep. Tim Scott acknowledged that while a growing rate of inflation meant that the economy might not be going in the right direction, it showed resilience. "One of the things it signals is resiliency in our economy," he said during a Fox News interview. "Because of Donald Trump, we have more Americans with more money in their pockets because we kept in place a $5 trillion tax cut, and your tax return is up 11%. So, there is more money to be spent on household necessities."
Tim Scott: "Inflation ticked up to 4.2%, the highest in 3 years. The trend is not going in the right direction. Scott claimed that the economy was still strong and healthy, but warned that there would be challenges heading their way. House Speaker Mike Johnson was also asked about President Trump's comments on inflation. "It was totally out of context, you know what he was talking about," he said. Johnson claimed that the GOP had passed several pieces of legislation to bring down the cost of living and give Americans higher tax returns.
