Argentinian soccer player appears to snub Donald Trump on stage after accepting World Cup medal

The FIFA World Cup final wasn't the most cordial of events for President Donald Trump; from being jeered by a crowd to having himself edited out of the Spanish national team's picture, Trump faced some resistance as he attended the Spain vs Argentina match at the New York New Jersey Stadium. Now a viral video claims that an Argentine defender snubbed the President while receiving his medal from FIFA President Gianni Infantino. 

In the video, Argentina's defender Cristian Romero seemingly refused to acknowledge Trump as he walked straight past him without even a small glance. After accepting his medal from FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Romero walked straight past Trump without a handshake or a glance, to greet Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Netizens have since shared their opinions about the viral moment. "El Cuti Romero completely ignores Trump but steps back to greet Claudia Sheinbaum," one user wrote on X. "Romero deciding not to shake Trump, I'm sure bro don't want to visit America again," quipped another. "Romero blanked Trump. Apologies for treating you too harshly before," a third user posted.

Subsequent videos show that Romero was not the only soccer player who refused to offer their hand to the U.S. President. Julian Alvarez (shirt number 9) and Lisandro Martinez (shirt number 6), both of whom received their respective medals from the President, also did not offer to shake his hand. It was not just the Argentina players who seemingly snubbed the U.S. President. Spanish player Borja Iglesias shook Trump's hand but refused to look in his direction.

Before the final, Iglesias was questioned on whether he would shake Trump's hand ahead of the World Cup final. "I don’t want to go to prison, I hope to greet him at a time when we are all very happy, and that it passes very quickly and I can forget about it," he said as per The Sun. "I don't think this is the time to create controversy. People know perfectly well what I think. I would love to do many things, but the reality is that even if people think I am all-powerful, I don't have that much power to tackle certain things," he added.

Other videos of President Trump's antics when the Spanish national team lifted the World Cup trophy have also gone viral. President Trump seemed to stay until the trophy was lifted alongside the players, even when FIFA President Infantino seemingly urged him to leave the area. The social media handles of the Spanish team edited the image to remove Trump from the photograph before posting it.

The relationship between Washington and Madrid hit a snag after President Trump called Spain a "wasted cause" at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, earlier this month. He also expressed his desire to end all trade with the European country. After everything was wrapped up, Trump said that he had spoken to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. He was then asked if there was any tension. "No, I have no tension. I have no tension with anybody," Trump responded.
