Laughter is Good Medicine

So, come on, laugh your way into a happy vibration!

As I was sitting in my car the other day I was pleasantly treated to the sound of peals of laughter coming from outside! I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself at the very sound of people enjoying each other’s company, captured in a moment in time that I was privileged to overhear! It was so uplifting and joyful and it made me realise how wonderful laughter really is. I mean, I was just sitting there in my wee world and, suddenly, I became part of another world! Now I have no idea what the laughter was all about but I sure felt the benefit of it because I couldn’t help myself, I just had to laugh out loud too! And it felt very good indeed!

Have you ever noticed how fabulous it feels to have a good belly laugh?

Sometimes, you can laugh until you cry and you have such a pain in your side! It is an amazing feeling! I have been treated to this experience on many occasions and it is the best gift that you can give yourself and others. Keeping things light, even in the midst of turmoil, can be life transforming. I used to know a gentleman and, no matter the occasion or the location, he had an amazing gift of telling a joke or sharing his humour which seemed to help dissolve anxiety and transport others to another land that they had forgotten existed! He would have everybody in fits of laughter, forgetting all about their troubles just for that moment! His eyes would twinkle and his smile would melt the hearts of those in his company, extracting the light from within! I realise now that there is enormous healing to be experienced within this energy. When laughter is shared, it binds people together and increases happiness and intimacy. It can also trigger healthy physical changes in the body like strengthening your immune system, boosting your energy and reducing pain and stress! And it’s free! 

So if you are looking for a little ‘pick me up’, let’s have a look at what you could do this very moment!

A lot of the time, when we are experiencing a difficult moment, we tend to delve deeper into it and try to work out the whys and the hows and discuss it with others to see what they think. However, as Einstein said, ‘You can’t solve a problem with the same level of thinking that created it’, so it’s best to change your thinking to something else and totally distract yourself, even if it is only for a few minutes, it can work wonders! A solution may suddenly become clear or the ‘problem’ might actually disappear! And one of the ways that I find helps me is to LAUGH! So, maybe watch a funny movie, read a joke book, call a friend and chat about some fun times you have had in the past, watch some DVDs of your favorite comedian…it’s MAGIC!

So, come on, laugh your way into a happy vibration!
