There is nothing wrong with who you are between smiles. . . . Positive thinking is useful, but highly overrated. Being truly successful does not require winning the positivity pageant. Being unsatisfied is healthy too. My whole life is an engine of dissatisfaction. It's why I wake-up in the morning. If you are unsatisfied, moody, discontented, and the song in your heart sounds more like a long frustrated moan, it's fine β€” groan, grumble, sigh, even growl. But, don't forget this; you are more. Real success is found in the balance of all things. Be fair with life, inasmuch as you wish life to be fair with you. Make your contentment equal to your discontentment. Voice your praise-filled gratitude as loudly, as your shouts of foul. Pray or give thanks in your own way, as earnestly as you bemoan your woes. Savior and sigh in the bliss of affections, as gutturally as your furrowed growls. Shout glory, Hallelujah, or thank you, thank you, thank you, as fervently as your most exquisite rage. It's not wrong to be upset. It's not wrong to cry. It's not wrong to want attention. It's not even wrong to scream or throw a fit. What is wrong is to keep it all inside. What is wrong is to blame and punish yourself for simply being human. What is wrong is to never be heard and to be alone in your pain. Share it. Let it out. I love this! Thank you. In the middle of a very difficult divorce after 24 years of marriage. We both have been unhappy for a very long time no time. I am beginning to get me back in the midst of pain and financial struggles. I am that butterfly waiting until my wings are ready to emerge from my cocoon…

@bryantmcgill This is so freeing for me. I used to smile through all the pain to not hurt others. Now I say more of how I feel yet it sometimes seems so negative. I still don’t want my attitude to affect others it’s not their fault I’m having a bad day. Now I’m working on accepting others bad moods, grumpiness, frustration. It’s a process I think in feeling ok about oneself and the world around. When I smiled I think I expected others to do the same. How can I be there for you or you be there for me if we are holding it inside. I believe a lot of emotional disorders come from not letting go, not speaking up, not being real. The fear of acceptance stops us from telling those around us what’s going on inside. Even my thoughts on this page brings fear. My freedom comes from knowing what it is to be human, getting rid of those ideals of believing I always have to have it together when I’m not and expressing my thoughts. Your article just helped me see more of what being human is. My next step is to not be upset at others humanness. Which I do.

@bryantmcgill What about those who express themselves to the point that they try to push others into submission. That they feel your not listening to them or caring about them because there not being heard “meaning getting what they want” When does expression become abuse?
